Illasi, in the heart of eastern Valpolicella, extends at the foot of the Lessini Mountains, in one of the most fascinating wine areas of Veneto. The calcareous-clay soils give life to structured and elegant wines, such as Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG and Valpolicella Superiore DOC, symbols of the local winemaking tradition. The landscape is characterized by gentle hills, orderly vineyards, and ancient rural courtyards, with the medieval castle overlooking and telling the story of a land where time seems to have stood still.
We are at the beginning of the twentieth century, when there were no telephones and the only means of transport was a mule or an old bicycle.
In those times, children were born in rural homes, and the figure of the “comare”, a term in the local dialect meaning midwife, was essential in assisting women during childbirth. This was the wonderful profession practiced by grandfather Ernesto’s mother. And just as the “comare” once symbolized new life, Comaroto today represents for us the symbol of a new dawn, marking the rise of a wine that preserves our origins.
Caressed by the breezes of the Lessini Mountains and nourished by the marl soils of our hills, the grapes ripen slowly, enriching themselves with aromas and harmony. From this balance comes our wine, an authentic expression of the soul of Valpolicella.
